Before installation
Identify the thermostat and equipment together
Match the full TH model number before using a wiring diagram. Confirm whether the equipment is conventional heating/cooling or a heat pump, and identify its stages and auxiliary heat.
The manual includes a 2 Heat / 1 Cool heat-pump diagram specifically for TH4210U. A familiar case or matching number of wires does not establish support. If you cannot identify the equipment, use a qualified installer.
Disconnect system power before installation. Thermostat Off is an operating command, not electrical isolation.

Check the UWP mount and the power section
The T4 Pro uses the UWP mounting system. The manual shows AA batteries for primary or backup power and the R/C connections for AC power. It describes C as optional when batteries are used, but recommended.
The R slider position depends on whether there is one or two transformers. That decision requires identifying the existing system; do not infer it from wire color.
The UWP door must close without bulging before the thermostat is attached. Do not force the thermostat onto trapped wires or a different wallplate.

Use the diagram for the actual system type
PDF page 4 contains separate diagrams for heat/cool, heat-only, cool-only and heat-pump systems. Terminal labels, transformer arrangements and changeover-valve behavior matter.
For heat-pump applications, the manual explicitly says not to use W as the heat-pump connection. Do not translate a conventional-system diagram into a heat-pump diagram by matching wire colors.
Do not remove wires until their existing terminals and the system are documented. If labels, voltage or equipment type are uncertain, stop and have the installer identify them.

Configure equipment settings before judging operation
Installer setup selects equipment type, stages, heating behavior and other options. The manual’s advanced setup table is the reference; settings are not universal across T4 installations.
The programming arrangement can be configured as non-programmable, 5-2, 5-1-1 or 7-day. A missing schedule can reflect the configured option rather than a broken menu.
This page intentionally does not provide a generic sequence of setting values. Have the installer match each relevant option to the equipment and controls.

Use the documented system test and handoff
The installer system-test section follows the setup table. Verify actual equipment response and supported stages using the manual, rather than repeatedly raising and lowering the setpoint.
Before handoff, record the thermostat model, configured equipment type, power arrangement and any supported auxiliary functions. Leave the user guide and explain the available modes and schedule.

A T4 name alone is not a model match
European T4, T4R and T4M thermostats and other Honeywell models may have different voltage, receivers and controls. These TH4110U/TH4210U instructions must not be applied by appearance alone.
