A. O. Smith water heater age lookup

Read production week, year and approximate age from a documented numeric serial. Supports the 13-digit format and confirmed 15-digit BFC Cyclone models.

What does your label show?

Use the Serial or S/N row, including leading zeros. Example: 1719106145074.

A. O. Smith only. Letters, other lengths and other 15-digit model families need manufacturer verification.

FORMAT COVERAGE

Which A. O. Smith serials can this read?

This version reads the service guide's 13-digit numeric shape and the manufacturer's 15-digit BFC Cyclone example when you confirm that model family. A matching shape is a date-code estimate, not confirmation that your number exists in the manufacturer's records.

Supported inputs and verification paths
Your labelWhat this page returnsYour next step
13 numeric digits: YYWW plus nine digitsProduction week and year, with approximate age. Weeks 01 to 53 are accepted; year uses the stated 2000s interpretation.Enter the whole serial. Confirm the equipment and era if the result conflicts with your records.
15 numeric digits on a BFC CycloneThe same year/week fields, with approximate age, after you confirm the model family.Check that the label identifies a BFC Cyclone. Other 15-digit products are not covered.
Letters, a different length, or an older serialNo automatic date. A failed modern match does not trigger a legacy guess.Use the complete model and serial with the official manufacturer lookup.
A printed manufacture month and yearAge based on the date you enter, clearly identified as supplied by you.Select Manufacture date above. Do not substitute the installation date.
State, Reliance, American or another brandNo brand-specific serial decoding on this page.Use that brand's documentation. Shared ownership does not establish a shared format for every product.

Read the documented example

1719106145074

Production week 19 of 2017

The service guide identifies 17 as the year and 19 as the production week. The remaining nine digits are not used for the date. The same number appears on its example electric water-heater data plate.

1754106145074

No date: week 54 is outside the rule

This deliberately altered example has an invalid week. The lookup refuses it rather than changing digits or reporting an age.

203707002601001

BFC Cyclone: production week 37 of 2020

A. O. Smith International's separate BFC 80 rating plate uses 20 for 2020 and 37 for the production week. Enter the complete 15-digit serial and confirm the BFC Cyclone model to reproduce this example. Its UK/IE label is a separate documented format, not evidence for every other product or market.

Find the right label without dismantling the unit

  1. Look for the rating plate on the outside of the tank jacket. Keep the complete model and serial together.
  2. Do not use a barcode on a replacement part or a handwritten installation sticker as the manufacture serial.
  3. If a date is printed, check whether it says manufactured or installed. Those dates answer different questions.
  4. If the label is inaccessible or faded, use your equipment paperwork or ask a service professional for a readable photo. Do not disconnect gas, water or electrical connections to reach it.

What the age result does and does not tell you

The result preserves the manufacturer's week/year precision. Approximate age uses calendar weeks beginning at the start of the year; the factory's week boundaries may differ. A week number does not identify a manufacture day. A year that would be in the future is not silently moved into the previous century.

Age alone cannot establish warranty coverage, a replacement deadline, equipment condition or remaining life. Check the installation invoice for installation age and the official equipment record for warranty questions.

Water-heater age questions

Why does my A. O. Smith serial contain letters?

A. O. Smith has used other serial shapes and date codes. This page's verified numeric rule does not establish their date. Keep every letter and use the full model and serial with the manufacturer.

Is the week number the same as a calendar month?

No. In the supported shape, the second pair of digits is a production week from 01 to 53. For the documented example, 19 means week 19, not a month or day.

Can this check my warranty?

No. This tool interprets a date code without connecting to manufacturer records. Use A. O. Smith's warranty verification for the official record and applicable terms.

Does an unsupported result mean my serial is wrong?

No. It means this version does not have a verified decoding rule for that shape. Do not shorten the number, remove letters or change its order to make it fit.
