Change the temperature without changing a program

  1. Choose Heat or Cool with the System switch.
  2. Press and hold Up or Down for about one second, releasing when the display flashes.
  3. Use Up or Down to choose the temperature.

For an extended manual setting, the booklet starts with Hold/Return until the Hold icon appears, then uses the same arrow adjustment. A temporary override and a permanent Hold are different states.

Check whether the HOLD indication remains before assuming the setting will persist. The older two-page owner guide describes Hold/Return as the cancel control; use the booklet matching your unit for its return sequence.

Do not use the recessed Reset button to cancel an ordinary temperature change. Reset can restore default programs.

Enter a heating or cooling program

  1. Check that the clock and day are correct. Move the System switch to the mode you want to program.
  2. Press Program to begin. Use Up or Down to choose the hour, then press Program to advance to minutes.
  3. Set the minutes, press Program, and set the temperature.
  4. Press Program to advance to the next period. Continue through the periods and day groups shown on your display.
  5. Use Hold/Return to leave programming. Press Program repeatedly to review the saved entries.

The 42708-01 booklet uses 10-minute time increments. Its programming screen returns to the normal display after 15 seconds without a button press.

Older two-page manuals describe grouped weekday/weekend programs. Do not assume another Hunter model or manual revision uses the same day arrangement.

Replace the two AA alkaline batteries

The Hunter booklet specifies two 1.5 V AA alkaline batteries. Check the marked polarity in the compartment. Have both replacements ready before removing the old pair.

Use the front battery compartment and its release lever. Do not remove or disturb the wired wallplate for a routine battery change. Set the System switch to Off while servicing the thermostat and restore the intended mode afterward.

Recheck the clock and programs after replacement. Do not rely on settings being retained indefinitely without batteries. If only the low-battery symbol remains, the older owner guide warns that the thermostat is no longer controlling temperature.

If your controls or manual do not match

Confirm the full model on your paperwork or equipment label. 44155C, 44157 and newer Hunter products should not be treated as interchangeable based on appearance.

This guide covers everyday controls. Wiring, internal system selectors and thermostat replacement require the full installation instructions and confirmed equipment compatibility.
